Reading

Many of his disciples, when they heard it, said, "This is a hard saying; who can listen to it?" But Jesus, knowing in himself that his disciples murmured at it, said to them, "Do you take offense at this? Then what if you were to see the Son of man ascending where he was before? It is the spirit that gives life, the flesh is of no avail; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. But there are some of you that do not believe." For Jesus knew from the first who those were that did not believe, and who it was that would betray him. And he said, "This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by the Father." After this many of his disciples drew back and no longer went about with him. Jesus said to the twelve, "Do you also wish to go away?" Simon Peter answered him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life; and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God."

Questions

1. “The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.” God has given us so much in this world. One of the most special gifts he has given to us is life. As college students, life seems to be very confusing sometimes. At these moments, have you ever thought about trusting God and his plan for you? How have you shown your trust in God?

2. “For Jesus knew from the first who those were that did not believe, and who it was that would betray him.” Sometimes it is difficult to realize that God is in the Eucharist. Following the Catholic practice may seem like an obligation and become routine. In these times, what are some ways that you are able to re-ignite your relationship with God in the Eucharist? What are some ways that you can nourish your relationship with Christ in your everyday life?

3. Jesus said many things that people took ‘offense’ at. At first it is hard to believe something that is so straightforward, such as the Bread being His Body. When was a time when someone was straightforward to you, but you refused to accept it at first; only upon reflecting did you realize that it actually helped you in the end. What helped you realize this?

4. "After this the disciples drew back." When was a time when you were confused about your faith and drew back? How were you able to keep strong in your faith or still believe even when you had your doubts?
