John 6:51-58

Jesus said to the crowds: “I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.” The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him. Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died, whoever eats this bread will live forever.”

Questions

1. Support- Jesus gave up his life for us so that we would not have to suffer for our sins. In this way, we know that He is there for us always. When has there been a time when you were in need and found yourself surrounded by people that were there to help you in your struggles? Also, what was a time when you helped a friend or family member through their times of hardship? How did this experience help you grow closer to God?

2. Doubt- The Jews found it difficult to have faith in Jesus and would not believe a word that He would tell them. During hard times we tend to doubt Jesus' word as well. Think of a time when you felt like giving up on your faith. What caused you to feel this way? How were you able to come back to your faith?

3. Fueling the Soul- In this passage Jesus is the living bread, the source of eternal life, and the nourishment for our soul. As the bread that fuels our spiritual life, we constantly long for him. Reflect upon an experience where you shared your life with other people, as did Jesus when He shared his life with us. How has this helped you strengthen the spiritual bond you have with God and with the people around you?

4. Trust in God- Jesus says that whoever believes in Him will remain in His presence as He will remain in ours. There are times when we find ourselves lost and unsure of what to do. Reflect on a time when you felt God's presence with you, as He guided you through your times of difficulties. How has this made you grow closer to Him, and how has it strengthened your faith?
