Love Nurtures Growth
Kevin Nguyen & Vicky Do / Watering Our Seeds / Week 1 / Monday, July 6, 2009
Summary
Welcome to the first meeting of summer! Hosted by Kevin and Vicky.
Reading
Mk 6:7-13
Jesus summoned the Twelve and began to send them out two by two
and gave them authority over unclean spirits.
He instructed them to take nothing for the journey
but a walking stick—
no food, no sack, no money in their belts.
They were, however, to wear sandals
but not a second tunic.
He said to them,
"Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave.
Whatever place does not welcome you or listen to you,
leave there and shake the dust off your feet
in testimony against them."
So they went off and preached repentance.
The Twelve drove out many demons,
and they anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them.
Questions
1). In the Gospel, Jesus sends out his disciples to go out and give their lives to preach repentance. As disciples of Jesus, we too are encouraged to share our faith. Share with us an experience when you actively tried to share your faith with another person. How did this person respond? How did this help you grow in your own faith?
2). Sometimes we may not realize it, but our parents do love us the way God does - unconditionally. How do your parents show you God's love today? What have they done in the past? How have you responded to accept their love and allow them to water your own seed?
3). Sharing God's love to others makes us vulnerable because they can either accept it or reject it. When have you made yourself vulnerable and dared to love? How has the act of sharing God's love impacted your own life?
4). Jesus specifically instructed his disciples to leave their material belongings behind - traveling only on their trust in God. Try to place yourself in the shoes of the disciples. How do material belongings hinder your trust in God? In other words, how do you find that your spirituality is limited by materialism?
